I made this for my son who was headed off to college. The center squares were stenciled with fabric paint using stencils I cut by hand-which took a whole lot longer than I thought it would! These are all symbols from my son's favorite sci-fi movies, books, websites and tv shows.
I was worried this would be too flagrantly geeky to have in a dorm room so I made the other side just plain red. I'm happy to see that my son has it on his dorm room bed with the super geeky side up! Making this was therapy for me. It was a good distraction from the anxiety that was brewing before move in day. It's such a drastic change to go from homeschooling to having a child away at college.I miss my sci-fi movie watching buddy but am happy to say he seems to be doing great at school so far!

Made this quilt for someone special heading off to college.
The front-just scrappy tilted nine patches....
It's a bittersweet thing seeing kids go off to college. Making a quilt feels symbolic more than practical, though I guess blankets are necessary too

Life got busy! I've done some dyeing and some gardening but mostly just driving the kids around and getting chores done for the past few months. My son graduated homeschool high school and made his college choice. Phew!
The gardens are in order...mostly. There's always one section that looks wilder and weedier than I'd like!
I had not realized just how stressful this past year had been until all the activities ended and we had a whole week with very little driving to activities. I was finally able to take a deep breath and have some quiet days at home...and even some time to sew and read. oh yeah-I remember downtime! I must make sure to always make some time for that no matter how busy things get around here. I feel almost human again.

Made a mini Doctor who for a swap on craftster....he has a pipe cleaner frame and sculpey shoes so he can stand on his own.
I made him some adipose friends...which are stitch markers.
